Parent Council Minutes – Jan.22/26


In Attendance: Patti Blundell, Lynda Peterson, Erin Hills, Becca Birnie, Joanna Marrelli,

Principals Report – Erin Hills:
Irwin Events:
● Holiday concert, successful Toonie sale, made $663
● Junior and senior badminton, volleyball is starting
● Cross country skiing, race is coming
● Thank you for wish list items – supplies, shelves for skis, crafts for Christmas, extra
mittens, etc.
● Breakfast program money (additional funds): $4738.70
● Pizza – need to raise to $2.75 to cover the cost of slices to students, funds towards
trips,etc.
● Playground inspection $423.97, repairs $1330 for this year, $1000 for repair costs
moving forward.
Other:
● EQAO data
○ Grade 3 Math 100%
○ Grade 3 Reading 100%
○ Grade 3 Writing 85.7% (12/14 students)
○ Grade 6 Math 38.9% (7/19 students)
○ Grade 6 Reading 84.2% (16/19 students)
○ Grade 6 Writing 89.5% (17/19 students)
● Next grad (2027) – 18 graduates
● Cost is $50 per meal + gratuity and tax ($67) – we didn’t charge the school cash fee
last year, if we have enough funds in graduation this year we will do the same. Motion
by Lynda to put $1210 aside for 2027 grads. Seconded by Joanna.

Patti Blundell update:

  • On Nov 21, ground was reconfigured for outdoor structure. Jessie and Mark
    volunteered time and machinery. Materials donated from Fred and Hailey
    Boothby. $5000 left to spend for anything outdoor
  • motion by Patti to use $1330 for repairs of playground equipment this year.
    Seconded by Nicole.
  • December bake sale raised $1058.
  • A winter Arrowhead PP trip is in the works for the whole school.
  • Nicole C. would like Irwin to have winter electives (ex. Swimming, rock climbing,
    skating, skiing etc.) Because we are so far out of town the cost is quite a bit.
    Nicole believes Lyons club and Kiwanis helps support winter electives financially
  • Thank you cards for sponsorships (Robinson’s, Muskoka Traditions) are needed
  • Patti applied for PRO Grant, hopefully it will be approved – use those funds
    towards family engagement night in May

Treasurer Report – Lynda

  • Balance in account $8337
  • See attached report
  • Joanna motioned $600 towards a new BBQ, seconded by Lynda
  • Motion by Lynda to put $3983.10 into the pot, seconded by Joanna
  • Erin has inquired about a commercial-like sink for school kitchen. Try going
    through facility renewal funds for this, following TLDSB procedures
  • motion by Patti, seconded by Lynda, to put $1500 to Grad dinner for 2026 to help
    supplement the cost for family members attending the grad dinner
    Hot Lunch – Joanna
  • Jan. 23rd hopefully
  • Cucs, carrots, raspberries, blueberries, tacos and toppings
  • Valentine’s Day Lunch date in the works
    Breakfast Program – Lynda
  • Bought a blender for smoothies
  • Donation was given so we now have a vacuum sealer
  • Thank you to volunteers and communication for covering each other

Fundraising:

  • Crispy Cream fundraiser
  • Big box of cards – themed box (ex. birthday) of cards to sell. Good profit
  • Patti will look into both these fundraisers for next meeting
