March 2026 Newsletter

Dear families,

We are all excited as we move into the final term of the school year! It’s hard to believe how

quickly the time has passed. February was a very busy month for our students and staff, filled

with engaging learning opportunities and several memorable trips. We are proud of how well our

students represented our school in the community.

As we approach spring weather, we know conditions can change quickly. Please check the daily

forecast and ensure your child comes prepared with appropriate outdoor gear. With the spring

thaw upon us, we anticipate some muddy and messy days on the playground! Rubber boots,

splash pants, and waterproof jackets will help keep students comfortable during outdoor play.

For our younger students especially, we kindly ask that you send an extra set of clothes —

particularly socks and pants — to keep at school.

The final term is always a meaningful and productive time of year. Classrooms will be focused

on consolidating learning, setting goals, and preparing students for a strong finish to the year.

We also look forward to upcoming school events, extracurricular activities, and opportunities to

celebrate student growth and achievement.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. If you have any questions or concerns,

please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.

We wish all of our families a safe, restful, and enjoyable March Break! We look forward to

welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for a wonderful spring term.

PARENT COUNCIL

Happy March!

It’s crazy how fast February went, and in no time, we’ll be enjoying spring weather.

We wanted to provide a list of ways to help volunteer as there is always something going on here at Irwin:

Breakfast Club: you prepare and serve the classes a snack in the morning.

Hot Lunch: this is one of our biggest fundraisers for the school. Once a month we have a hot lunch. It’s a day commitment, we all cook then serve the classes. The next hot lunch will be on March 12th.

School garden: We are hoping to get our school garden up and going again in the springtime.

Other opportunities throughout the year include; baking for bake sales, our thanksgiving feast (in October), and track and field (this is a June event). We will need help in May for our Family BBQ night (more information to come out about that later).

If any of this interests you, please reach out to us at [email protected]

The next parent council meeting will take place on Wednesday April 1st at 7pm. All are welcome to attend with no commitment necessary. We keep the meetings to one hour, and appreciate input and feedback from everyone who would like to provide it. If you would like the virtual link, or to learn more about Parent Council and other ways that you can be involved, please reach out to Patti and Joanna at [email protected]

Have a great month everyone!

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Our cross-country skiing season has come to an end. Congratulations to the 35 students who competed throughout our cross-country skiing season. It has been a fantastic year with lots of snow and great trails. We had lots of top 10 finishers at both races and almost every skier improved their place and time who competed in both races! A big shout out to Mrs. Brown who takes the lead on our ski program and maintains all of our equipment.

It was so great to have so many new skiers in grade one and two who begin their skiing journey this year. A big shout out to Brooklyn Boothby, a grade 8 student, who has participated in every ski race since she began skiing in grade 2! She is a true example of how participating and doing your best is the ultimate goal in life!

Way to go Irwin skiers!!

DWIGHT LIBRARY

We have an exciting new kids program coming to the Dwight Branch!  Beginning March 5th, and continuing every Thursday at 4:30 (except the week of March Break), we are running a Code Club!  Kids will learn from an experienced Coder, engaging in games, animations and fun projects.  Registration is required. Program is geared towards children aged 6-12 years old. It’s FREE!
